The L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at San Diego State University is now home to two life-changing master’s programs. Our success with the Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Master’s Program led us to partner with Meeting Professionals International (MPI) in co-creating a Meeting and Event Management Master’s Program set to launch in 2019. The only question is: Which of the two will you use to take your career to the next level?
For Leaders at Heart
Both the HTM and Meeting and Event Management Master’s Programs are geared toward busy hospitality professionals looking to enhance not only their skills, but also their standing as leaders and changemakers. If you feel an unrelenting desire to spark a true impact on your organization and inspire those around you, the HTM or Meeting and Event Management Master’s will empower you to do so.
How Both Programs Work
The Meeting and Event Management Master’s Program is modeled after the success of the HTM Master’s Program. HTM Master’s alumni earn a significant percentage—from 10 to 50 percent—more per year than they did prior to receiving a master’s degree, according to surveyed alumni.
Following the tried and true HTM Master’s format, the 18-month Meeting and Event Management Master’s Program begins and culminates with a week on campus at SDSU. The rest of the coursework is completed online, amounting to a challenging but manageable 10-12 hours per week of reading, assignments, and forum discussions that can be completed on your schedule. In either program, you can count on a combination of leadership takeaways, industry-specific lessons, TED Talk-style guest lectures, mentorship matching and a Capstone Project.
Where Are You Now and Where Do You Want to Go?
If you enjoy the structure and hierarchical nature of working in a hotel or restaurant setting, the HTM Master’s Program will equip you with the leadership and operational know-how you need in order to climb the corporate ladder. If you envision your career path taking shape in the dynamic environment of meetings and events, the Meeting and Event Management Master’s Program is the only graduate program designed specifically for you.
The Meeting and Event Management Master’s is attracting Certified Meeting Managers (CMMs), Certified Meeting Professionals (CMPs), and professionals in fields such as corporate meeting planning, third party planning, group sales, convention services and destination management—all of whom could easily gain immense value from the HTM Master’s Program, but now have access to a curriculum truly tailored to meetings and events through our partnership with MPI. Our mission with this new master’s program is to elevate the status of the meeting professional to a seat at the leadership table.
